Please Mind the Platform Gap

I got to do a little more exploring today as it was my first full weekend here.  Singapore is a fairly compact city state and the public transportation here is very robust.  Subway trains come on average every 5 minutes and the buses are quite frequent as well.  It is also incredibly cheap to travel on public transit here.  Fares are calculated based on the distance you go so most of the short jumps I need to make around my area cost me 68 to 72 cents USD.  Makes it very cheap and convenient for when I have more time to explore the city!

Just avoid the peak commute hours.  Oh man when it is peak commute hours, it's every man and woman for themselves.  Last Friday I made the mistake of taking the subway at that time.  Everyone was packed into the cars like sardines and not everyone could get on the train.  People literally stood at the edge of the platform door so that they could push their way into the train car.  And I only had to take the train for 3 stops!  Otherwise it is very clean and efficient.  With good reason too, because eating or drinking on the subway carries a $500 fine!

That's right, no durians!
