After Work

I decided to go explore another area of the city after work today with the other pharmacy student from the US after she mentioned something called the Cookie Museum.  If it has sugar, I'm in!  We ended up in an affluent area of Singapore called Raffles Place and honestly I'm starting to see a pattern where above every subway station is a mall.  This one was definitely more upscale with the really expensive brands that you might find in downtown SF or Beverly Hills.  Actually, this mall was so big, there was a directory specifically for food:

It must have taken us about half an hour to decide what to eat because the food area in the lower level was huge!  Then we had to try to find the place which was a lot harder than I thought.  We circled the lower level twice before finding out that the restaurant we wanted to go to wouldn't open for another week or so but we'll definitely be back because they specialize in okonomiyaki (Japanese pancakes).  So we settled for a Japanese curry place that also specialized in pies:

Karaage and Crunchy Shrimp Omu Rice

Chocolate Montblanc Pie

The omu rice was ok but the karaage and shrimp were nice and crunchy.  Then the pie had a very delicate hazelnut flavor and the whole combo was only about $14USD.

After that huge dinner, we had to walk things off so we headed out to the Cookie Museum at the Esplanade.  I don't know if Christmas is in full swing back home yet, but here everything's already decked out:

A 15 minute walk later, we finally made it!

So it turned out that the Cookie Museum was actually just a specialty cookie and tea shop that sells really unique cookie flavors.  Seriously weird flavors like Hainanese Chicken Rice cookie, Laksa cookie, and violet cookies.  I must have tried 9 or 10 different samples (and wanted more!) but a tin of these cookies cost $45SGD!  I'll be back though...

It was still pretty early after we finished up at the Cookie Museum so we checked out the rest of the Esplanade and waterfront area:

Keep in mind here, as we were walking out on the waterfront it is still about 85° and 90% humidity at 9 pm so I was sweating constantly.  Maybe this is how the people here manage to eat so much but still stay fit - walk and sweat it all off after the dinner!  All in all, a good end to the first week of rotations.
